Description

This is the expansion and reconstruction of an institute in the municipality of Almeria, known for its arid climate, desert landscapes and proximity to the sea. The white colour of the façade evokes the vernacular buildings on the shores of the Mediterranean. This ordered facade is energized by the presence of a large cantilever of reinforced concrete forming a porch that creates shaded areas for children’s play on hot summer days.

The distribution of the spaces, apart from fulfilling the demanding programme of needs of a teaching centre, facilitates the correct natural lighting and ventilation of all the classrooms. The projected passive shading systems have been considered ideal for this type of construction and climate.
